MY APPROACH

Clients tell me that I am warm, accepting and nonjudgmental, and at the same time able to give direct feedback and guide them to find creative solutions to the problems they present. I view psychotherapy as a collaborative process: you and I partner to identify obstacles in the path to a more satisfying life and, together, we work to formulate a plan and marshal a range of strategies and evidence-based treatments.  I often assign behavioral tasks or "homework" between sessions and provide coaching as clients practice the new skills they have gained.

While I am well-trained in psychopathology and psychiatric diagnosis, I work from a strength-based model, focusing on mobilizing inner resources and expanding one's options and perspective. I also believe that developing healthy support systems outside of the therapy realm is a vital part of the process.  A fundamental piece of my job is to help clients identify and solidify these supports as we work to implement change.
