Clients tell me that I am warm, accepting and non judgmental. But they also tell me that I am someone who does not shy away from giving direct feedback and helping them to actively find practical solutions to the problems they present. I view psychotherapy as a collaborative process: you and I partner to identify obstacles in the path to a more satisfying life and, together, we work to formulate a plan and marshal a range of strategies. I often assign behavioral tasks or "homework" between sessions and provide coaching as clients practice the new skills and tools they have gained.
While I am well trained in psychiatric symptoms and diagnoses, I use a strength based approach and focus on helping my clients to mobilize their inner resources. It is my belief that developing healthy support systems outside of individual therapy is a vital part of the process. A fundamental piece of my job is to help my clients identify and solidify these supports as we work to implement change and to achieve the objectives we set.
