ABOUT MEI am a clinical social worker and psychotherapist (MSW, Columbia University 1988). In the early part of my career I gained invaluable experience working in two inpatient psychiatric units in New York City: St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center and the Payne Whitney Clinic of New York Hospital. As a member of these psychiatric teams, I became well versed in the range of psychiatric disorders, honing an expertise in crisis intervention, psychopharmacology, group and family therapy. I returned to St. Luke’s to help start the first women's only drug and alcohol detoxification unit in the country. At St. Luke’s, I supervised a staff of social workers and drug and alcohol counselors and developed an outpatient substance abuse detoxification/rehabilitation program for pregnant and parenting women.
After working in inpatient psychiatric settings, I applied what I learned in the field to become the Training Coordinator for the Housing Resource Center, a nationally recognized non-profit that consults with mental health agencies and hospitals across the country. At CUCS I led staff training workshops on topics such as counseling techniques, addiction, harm reduction, relapse prevention, trauma, motivational interviewing, psychopharmacology and stress reduction. I also conducted organizational assessments and facilitated strategic planning and staff development retreats. Since 2001, I have been in private practice in Montclair, NJ where I work with individuals, families and groups. I also also develop and lead workshops in the local school systems and the community at large. |
